Has anyone used Kanaplex with their livebearers? I had a couple of showa/sanke koi swordtails waste away a while back, and I panicked and treated nearly all of my livebearers with Kanaplex after reading about mysterious livebearer wasting diseases. That was several months ago, and while my fish are fat and healthy, I have yet to see a single fry born from any of the fish I treated, with the exception of a koi swordtail who was pregnant at the time of treatment. Can Kanaplex cause infertility? I treated as instructed on the bottle, every other day for 3 treatments.

I've not used Kanaplex in my fish room, so I did a Google search for some information on this medication.

Here are a few of the websites I found:

http://www.seachem.c...ity-of-kanaplex

http://www.aquariumf...ease-87449.html

http://www.davidsaqu...plex-metroplex/

http://www.aquariuma...ble-346864.html

http://www.seachem.com/kanaplex.php

I didn't find a lot of information about Kanaplex and infertility, although there was more information on treatment of wasting away, mostly without success.

I hope you are able to determine the best way to proceed.

Best fishes,

Leslie

Thanks, Leslie, fantastic information. I'd read some of that info other places before, but some was brand new for me. Really helpful. I'll be ordering a copy of that book recommended on the aquariumadvice site.

The good news is that I have not lost a fish to mysterious skinniness since I treated - so it seems that whatever was causing it in my case has been taken care of. I am also now much more diligent about dipping my hands and equipment between tanks, and quarantine for new fish.
